  • Your age: The positioning of the hairline is adjusted to look natural according to your age.
  • Your forehead: Depending on the height of your forehead, the hairline is positioned just above the frontal muscle for a harmonious appearance.

About Shaving

A complete shave or a partial shave – that’s the question our future patients ask us every day. The answer is: everything is possible. But one thing remains obligatory: shaving the donor area. It provides better access to the grafts.

We recommend shaving the whole area to see how your new grafts are growing. For aesthetic reasons, which are often requested by patients, we usually leave the hair long in women.

This is it, we're here! You're entering the operating theatre for your hair transplant. Before we start with the extraction of the follicles, we give you a sedative to make you sleep and to make the anaesthetic injections in your skull painless.

Post-Operation Care & Recovery — Useful Information

Before leaving, you have the most important step to complete: the postoperative check-up. This step is mandatory and necessary before your return home.

The doctor will check that there are no complications or anomalies present on your scalp/beard. He will also ask you questions about how you feel after the anaesthetic has worn off, and ask any outstanding questions of your own.

Your medical file is completed and the doctor authorises you to leave the clinic. The Elitcare support team then proceeds with the rest of the post-operative care.

First Hair Wash

The nurse shampoos both areas with a spray of lukewarm water to moisten and start washing without rubbing the area. The nursing staff apply a foam, dabbing the donor and recipient areas with or without a towel, and leave the cleansing lotion to act for a few minutes.

To remove excess water and avoid dampness, a towel, or gas compress is used to gently dry the area.

Headband Application

A bandage is placed on the temple area to reduce swelling—it should be worn for the first three days.

In addition, you will receive a special aftercare set including shampoo and lotion, which supports healing and promotes hair growth and a personalized medical plan, which usually includes an antibiotic, painkillers, anti-inflammatory drugs, and—for smokers—aspirin.

Avoid swimming for at least two weeks. Chlorine and salt can irritate the scalp, while bacteria in water increases infection risk. Consult your doctor before resuming swimming.

Delay Saunas and Tanning Beds

Avoid saunas and tanning beds for four to six weeks, as intense heat and UV exposure may risk infection and harm new follicles. Gradual reintroduction is advised after this period.

Protecting Your Scalp

In the first two weeks after a hair transplant, your scalp is highly sensitive. Avoid any bumps or impacts, as even minor knocks can dislodge newly implanted follicles and risk bleeding. 

Managing Swelling

Swelling often follows surgery but usually eases within days. Rest, avoiding touching the treated area, and wearing a headband can manage swelling.

Caring for the Donor Area

Post-transplant, the donor area needs gentle care. Patients should avoid sweat-inducing activities, swimming, and sun exposure for the first 14 days to prevent infection and promote healing.
